Recently, we partnered with a client to manufacture critical cleaning vehicle parts using 1020 carbon steel. Faced with significant diameter variations and strict tolerance requirements, our engineering team delivered a tailored solution that reduced costs without compromising performance.
The Challenge: Complex Geometry & High Machining Costs
The component featured a dramatic variation in diameter - from Ø150mm at its widest point to just Ø9mm at the narrow knurled section.
Machining this part from solid bar stock would have resulted in excessive material waste, extended machining time, and prohibitively high costs.


Our Solution: Forging + CNC Machining
To address this challenge, we worked closely with the client to adopt a forging + CNC machining process.
This approach:
- Preserved the integrity of the 1020 steel grain structure
- Significantly reduced raw material waste
- Shortened machining time
- Lowered overall production costs
Quality Assurance: Beyond Standard Tolerances
These CNC machined steel components require exceptional accuracy, especially for the taper angle, which had a strict tolerance of ±0.3°.
Standard measurement tools were insufficient. To ensure precision:
• We developed custom taper gauges
• Enabled 100% inspection by our QC team
• Guaranteed every part met exact angular specifications for seamless assembly


Enhanced Durability: QPQ Surface Treatment
Due to the operating environment of cleaning vehicles, components are exposed to moisture and abrasion.
We applied QPQ (Quench-Polish-Quench) treatment, a specialized nitriding process that:
• Increases surface hardness
• Improves wear resistance
• Enhances corrosion resistance
This significantly extends the service life of the component.
Safe Transit: Custom Packaging
Each finished part weighs approximately 1.2 kg.
To prevent damage during transportation, we designed custom blister packaging, ensuring:
• Protection of precision-machined surfaces
• Preservation of critical dimensions
• Resistance to impact and corrosion during transit
