CNC lathes can be classified into three categories based on function: economic lathes, full-function lathes, and turning machining centers. These categories differ significantly in their level of automation, machining capabilities, and applicable scenarios.
Classification by Function (Core Classification Method)
Economic CNC Lathes: Based on ordinary lathes, they employ open-loop or semi-closed-loop control systems. The spindle is mostly frequency-controlled, suitable for roughing and semi-finishing simple rotating parts. They are low-cost, easy to maintain, and commonly used in small businesses or for teaching and training.
Full-Function CNC Lathes: Possessing complete CNC system functions, supporting two-axis linkage (X and Z axes), equipped with high-rigidity tilting guideways and a rear-mounted tool turret, they can achieve high-precision turning of complex contours and are currently the most widely used mainstream model.
Turning machining center (turning-milling composite center) integrates a power tool post and C-axis control on the basis of a full-function model. It can perform multi-process composite machining such as turning, milling, drilling, and tapping, significantly reducing the number of clamping operations. It is suitable for complex parts with high precision and multi-face machining.
