Carbon steel turned parts have become one of the most widely used parts types in machinery manufacturing due to their advantages such as low cost, good machinability, moderate strength, and strong weldability.

Excellent Machinability: Carbon steel (especially low- and medium-carbon steel) exhibits excellent chip breaking properties and surface finish during turning, with low cutting resistance and slow tool wear. For example, low-carbon steels such as C10E and C15E are easy to machine, weld well, and can be cold-bent, making them ideal for automated mass production.

Sulfur-containing free-cutting steels (such as C10R and 1.0722) further improve machining efficiency by adding sulfur or lead, resulting in automatic chip breakage and a 30% increase in machining efficiency.

Good Weldability and Formability: Due to its low carbon content, low-carbon steel has excellent weldability, suitable for various processes such as arc welding and gas shielded welding. Welded joints have high strength and good toughness. It also possesses good plasticity, allowing for the formation of complex structural parts through cold bending and stamping.

High Cost-Effectiveness: Carbon steel raw materials are widely available, and the smelting process is mature, resulting in prices far lower than alloy steel or stainless steel. Under the premise of meeting usage requirements, it is a structural material choice with extremely high cost-effectiveness.

Moderate balance of strength and toughness: Medium carbon steel (such as 45# steel, C15E) has both high strength and good toughness after quenching and tempering, making it suitable for manufacturing parts such as gears and shafts that bear moderate loads.

Wide applicability and high degree of standardization: The carbon steel grade system is well-established (such as AISI and EN standards), and commonly used grades from 1020 to 1045 have clear chemical composition and mechanical property specifications, which facilitates design selection and supply chain management.
